The truth about climategate

I am starting to be convinced that the current climate gate story has somehow been engineered by the SH804 course leaders as it seems to cover so much that relates to the course including;

  • Transparency and openness of scientists
  • How fair is the peer review process
  • Intellectual property
  • Communication between scientists
  • Impartiality
  • Who funds the scientists (and sceptics)
  • the publics reaction to contested science
  • The reporting of science
  • Public Engagement- or lack of

One response to “The truth about climategate

  1. Hi there
    I did the old version of this course S804. I found the issue of peer review publication fascinating. I can see the value of the process for checking quality and accuracy of research methods, but on the other hand it does seem to be unnecessarily controlling. Wasn’t there something in the news this week about a small group of stem cell experts essentially muzzling the research community via this process.

    I like Martin Weller’s approach of using his blog as a publishing medium, and letting people make up their own minds as to whether or not what he says has value and creedence. I guess, though, that is easier done with a topic such as online education rather than a complex science discipline such as stem cell research.

    Right, back to H809. I’m am honing my prevaricating skills this morning!
